Avent bottles are now often recommended by breastfeeding experts for breastfed babies when expressed breastmilk must be given. These bottles with their broad, soft, silicone nipples are more readily accepted by breastfed babies and result in easier transitions back and forth between breast and bottle. They encourage the baby to use both his lips and his tongue rather than just his lips, thus mimicking breastfeeding more closely. Additionally, some studies have found that babies fed with the Avent bottles experience colic less often than babies fed with other bottles. Wider mouths on the Avent feeding bottles also make pouring easier and cleaning less of a hassle.
Important Note: Avoid giving your breastfed baby a bottle before 4-6 weeks of age unless medically indicated to prevent the risk of nipple confusion. |
